AAP co-founder Arvind Kejriwal has stirred controversy, this time in Goa, with his poll speeches, in which he has repeatedly asked voters in the State to accept money and if needed demand money from the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party and then vote for the Aam Aadmi Party.
Kejriwal’s controversial comments have resulted in a complaint filed by the BJP with the Chief Electoral Officer, Goa, and a demand for an apology from the Congress party, which said that the Delhi chief minister had “insulted” voters of Goa.
“Kejriwal has insulted the voters of Goa with this comment. He must apologise,” Congress spokesperson Trajano D’Mello told a press conference in Panaji.
During his four rallies held at Benaulim and Mormugao on Saturday (Jan 7) and Mapusa and Sanquelim (Jan 8), Kejriwal had repeatedly asked voters to accept money from political parties keen on dishing it out ahead of polls, but ended with an imploration to vote for the AAP.
“If people from the Congress and BJP come to you with money, take it. If they give you `5000, demand `10,000. But when it comes to pressing the button, vote for AAP,” Kejriwal had said.
The BJP has also filed a complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer calling Kejriwal’s comments a serious misdemeanor.
“Kejriwal belonging to the AAP addressed a public meeting at Sankhali, Goa on January 8. In that meeting he addressed the public and asked them to accept cash against casting their vote. This is a serious violation of the model code of conduct and must be addressed immediately,” a complaint filed by BJP’s legal cell head Atmaram Barve says.
