Kejriwal, Modi to vie for dominance in Indore skies

Published on:

General elections may be four months away, but the Bharatiya Janata Party’s prime ministerial candidate and Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi and Aam Admi Party supremo and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal would be fighting it out in the Indore skies much before that.

Ahead of the Makar Sankranti festival, kite makers here have come out with Modi and Kejriwal brands of kites. Interestingly Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi does not find any place in this contest as ‘Rahul brand’ kites are not seen in the market.

“We have introduced Modi brand and Kejriwal brand kites of different sizes, carrying the photographs of the two leaders,” kite seller Sohrab Hussain says.

Price of the kites ranges from Rs five to Rs 50, he says.

Modi brand kites come in no prizes for guessing saffron colour, carrying the photograph of the BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate, while Kejriwal kites show him with the trademark AAP cap. Both brands are selling like hot cakes, says Hussain.

last year, ‘Anna brand’ kites were popular. But Hazare’s disciple seems to have upstaged him this year, as very few kites bearing the Gandhian’s photograph are to be seen in the market.

The political war between the arch political rivals in the state, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the opposition Congress in Madhya Pradesh might have remained unaffected with the new political entrant in the country politics — the AAP till the recently held Assembly elections of the State.

But in the parliamentary elections AAP is all set to give sleepless night to both the major political players of the state.

The absence of Rahul Gandhi kites is seen as the decreasing popularity of the Nehru Gandhi scion and is enough to give restlessness to the Congress workers who are having expectations from their leader.
