In a bid to allay the fear being created by his opponents that joining hands with RJD’s lalu Prasad would make governance a big victim, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday said there would be no compromise with the rule of law. At no cost there should be compromise with law and order. Rule of law is the basic of the governance and if the foundation is weak, the edifice will come crashing,” he said while addressing police officials at an award ceremony hosted by the home department.
He asked the cops to maintain the record of their earning during the past nine years. “You have removed fear from the minds of the people and they feel secured. I assure you there will be no interference in your work and you too have to ensure that you will not come under any pressure,” the CM said. The BJP has been alleging that since lalu and Nitish came together crime graph has shot up and police was under pressure for undue favour. Nitish admitted that during the summer, the crime graph goes up and asked the policemen to look into this aspect. He directed them to check the crime and remain alert with night patrolling in order to instill a sense of confidence among the people. “Today Bihar has got a respect not only in the country but abroad as well for the better law and order and all effort should be made that this image is not sullied,” said Nitish.
The CM recalled that before 2005 the condition of the police stations across the State was appalling. For the filing of FIRs, the police would ask for the papers and carbon, the police vehicles were pushed to start and its loud noise would alert the criminals, there were police stations which had no vehicles and they would seize public transport to carry the arrested persons. But after he came to power police was provided with vehicles and arms and now they were being armed with modern weapons.
