Kashmir's accession was 'unconditional': RSS chief
Published on:

RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Sunday said the recent statement of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on accession of J&K with India was not true. He said the accession of Jammu and Kashmir was ‘unconditional’ and ‘irreversible’ as the Maharaja Hari Singh had signed the same instrument of accession that other larger princely states signed before joining the dominion of India.

Addressing a large gathering of RSS workers here in Parade Ground RSS Chief said,  “recently i came to know  when a delegation of European Union called on the State Chief Minister he told them the merger of J&K  did not take place as it was conditional. Bhagwat said, this is not true. “like all other princely states of India the state of Jammu and Kashmir too had signed the same instrument of accession. The same was ‘unconditional’ and irreversible”,he added claiming even changes cannot be introduced in the original instrument of accession as it contained certain references to this effect.

Omar had earlier told EU delegation “While all the States acceded to Union of India and then merged with it, Jammu and Kashmir only acceded and not merged. That is why we have special status, our own constitution and the State Flag”.

On Saturday  one of the senior Congress ministers had also targeted the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for creating uncertainty by challenging accession of Jammu and Kashmir with the Indian Union.

“What does the Chief Minister want to convey by making statements on every third day that accession of J&K with India does not mean merger with the Union” ,PHE,Irrigation and Flood Control Minister Sham lal Sharma questioned.

Sharma said such controversial and damaging statements over the status of Kashmir despite being in Government do not serve any purpose towards resolution of the problem but only create uncertainty in the trouble torn State, encourage anti-nationals, separatists,  Pakistan and invite our enemy that we are weak.

Maintaining that there was no dispute over the integration of J&K with Indian Union, after the agreements of 1947, 1953 and finally Indira-Sheikh Accord of 1975, the Congress minister reminded his Chief Minister that the latter had himself taken oath of Indian Constituency for assuming office.

“If there is dispute over accession and merger, then why do you take oath of Indian Constitution for contesting elections and then getting electedIJ Why are you staying in the Government and for what”IJ Sham lal questioned and dared the Chief Minister to quit the office if the latter had reservations over status of J&K.

Commenting on the recent incidents of violence in Kishtwar RSS Chief said, “people with vested political interest had  hatched a conspiracy in Kishtwar to trigger mass exodus of local residents by attacking them”. Under such circumstances the people at the helm were supposed to cool down the tempers but in Jammu and Kashmir those who are supposed to bring people together are focusing on ‘separatism’,he added.
