The separatists and religious scholars have expressed concern over growing activism of the RSS in Kashmir allegedly through the Hindu nationalist organisation’s Delhi-based Muslim fronts. “It is a highly disturbing fact that the RSS is using its auxiliary Muslim Rashtriya Manch (MRM) and allied groups such as the Daryaganj-based Jamaat Ulema-e-Hind and a network of 20 to 30 NGOs to spread its influence and agenda in the Kashmir Valley,” Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who heads a faction of Hurriyat Conference and a conglomerate of religious groups known as Mutahida Majlis-e-Ulema (MMU) said.
Mirwaiz said that emergency meeting of MMU was held to deliberate on the issue of growing influence of the RSS in the Valley on Wednesday. “In pursuit of its well-known agenda on Kashmir, the RSS has a long-term interest in fracturing the Kashmiri society, preventing a cohesive Kashmiri voice and creating confusion and discord within the society”, he said.
He said that the fact that it is using religious groups from India and also NGO’s providing relief, is concerning because it indicates an attempt to change the social, religious and cultural ethos of Kashmir. He said that in this context it is incumbent upon all religious scholars, preachers and religious organisations to make the public aware of “RSS ploy” and ask them to be on guard against it. Mirwaiz asked the PDP-led coalition to come clear on whether it has entered into an agreement in this regard with the BJP in the common minimum programme.
