Yet another move was made to disturb communal peace in riot-hit Kasganj when some unidentified miscreants burnt the door of a religious place in Ganjdunduwara locality of the district.

luckily the fire was spotted in the early hours of Monday and doused in time before it took communal colour. Superintendent of Police (SP) in Kasganj, Piyush Srivastava, reached the spot, along with heavy police, to avert any untoward incident. He later suspended two police personnel on mobile duty after finding their negligence for foiling the subversive act. The suspended policemen included constables Harishanker and Nagendra.

The SP said that an investigation by the Patiali circle officer has been ordered. The SP after visiting the spot also held a meeting with the peace committee of the locality to ease out the tension. He also strengthened the police deployment so one could further create any problem to disturb communal harmony. Srivastava also claimed that the reason how the door caught fire was yet to be ascertained, but still they got a FIR registered in the matter against unidentified persons.

According to the incident the fire was observed at the religious place near vegetable market in Ganjdundwara around 5am on Monday. Some locals immediately informed the police who rushed to the spot and summoned the fire brigade which finally doused the flames before it could spread inside. District Magistrate RP Singh and Piyush Srivastava also rushed to the spot. Additional forces along with RAF have been deployed in the area.

It may be mentioned that Kasganj witnessed a communal violence for five days after the Republic Day Tringa Yatra, which claimed life of a youth identified as Chandan Gupta. The killing also led to a spiral of violence in which at least half a dozen shops including one belonging to an accused named in Gupta’s killing, two buses and a car were torched. Governor Ram Naik had also termed the Kasganj violence a “blot” on the state which further embarrassed the Government. Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath also took the violence seriously and had shunted out the district police chief.
