Karti knocks Madras HC's doors to quash CBI's look-out notice at airports

Published on:

Alerted by the look-Out Circular issued by CBI at all airports, former Finance Minister P Chidamabram’s son Karti on Friday moved a petition to Madras High Court to quash it. The Court has posted the matter to Monday. Few days ago due to continuous evasion of summons notices by Karti, CBI had alerted all the airports to prevent his foreign trips.

Hearing Karti’s petition, Justice D Duraiswamy, adjourned the case to August 7 after Additional Solicitor General G Rajagopalan sought time to get instructions on whether such a circular had been issued. Karti said he came to know that Ministry of Home Affairs on Enforcement Directorate’s request had issued look-Out Circular against him, violating norms. He said government is engaged in political vendetta.

CBI had registered FIR and conducted raid at Chidamabram’s home,

accusing Karti for receiving kickbacks for illegal approval of FIPB clearance to INX Media owned by Peter and

Indrani Mukherjea. However Karti did not appeared before CBI, ignoring the two summons.

In his petition, Karti contended that circular had been issued arbitrarily and without jurisdiction by the Foreigner Regional Registration Officer (FRRO) and the Bureau of Immigration under the

Union home ministry at the behest of different agencies to prevent him from travelling abroad.
