Imphal, Jul 26 (PTI) Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla on Saturday said the legacy of the Kargil War serves as a powerful reminder to uphold the values of unity, resilience, and patriotism, as the nation commemorates the 26th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas.

Speaking at an event in Imphal, Bhalla paid rich tributes to the soldiers who laid down their lives during the 1999 conflict, describing their courage as an enduring inspiration for future generations.

"We remain eternally indebted to the valiant heroes of our armed forces. Kargil Vijay Diwas celebrates India’s victory against terrorism and external aggression, and is a solemn tribute to the unwavering spirit and sacrifice of our soldiers," he said.

The governor recalled that seven soldiers from Manipur had sacrificed their lives during the war, highlighting the state’s contribution to the nation's defense.

"The battles fought in the extreme conditions of Kargil reflect the determination, courage, and selfless service of our forces. Each year, this day reminds us of those who stood fearlessly in the face of adversity," he added.

Bhalla also noted that the remembrance of Kargil Vijay Diwas ensures that the stories of heroism and sacrifice are passed on to future generations.

Referencing India’s recent anti-terror operations, the governor said, "With the stand that India will always defend its integrity, Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7 this year in response to the tragic Pahalgam terror attack. The operation, which destroyed nine terror sites, is a testament to India's unwavering stance against terrorism."

He concluded by expressing solidarity with the families of fallen soldiers and saluting the bravery of those who continue to protect the nation.

Kargil Vijay Diwas, observed every year on July 26, marks the success of Operation Vijay, which reclaimed Indian territory from Pakistani intruders in the Kargil sector of Ladakh, at the cost of over 500 Indian soldiers’ lives.
