Kannur BJP man's killing: No arrest even after 10 days

Published on:

Protest is raging among the BJP-RSS leadership and activists of northern Kerala over the failure of the police under CPI(M) Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to arrest the Marxist killers of young BJP-RSS worker Shamej Parambath in New Mahe in Kannur district even ten days after the incident while the Puducherry Police have already arrested four BJP men for the killing of a local CPI(M) leader on the same day in adjacent Mahe.

The BJP as well as the general public in Kannur and Mahe, an enclave of Puducherry caught between two Kerala districts, are equally surprised at the Kerala Police’s failure in arresting the culprits who had hacked RSS-BJP worker Shamej Parambath (36) on the night of May 7 even when they are claiming that they have got accurate information about all the accused in the case.

Allegations have already come up to the effect that the killers of Shamej have not been arrested so far not because of the incapability of the State police but because of interferences from the top levels of the Government and the ruling CPI(M). It is alleged that the Thalassery Police investigating the killing of Shamej have got instructions to go slow on the case.

“The police are claiming they have got clear information about all those involved in the killing of Shamej. Then what is the problem in arresting themIJ” asked a top BJP leader. “There will be no arrests till the CPI(M) leaders prepare a list of fake culprits and hand it over to the police. They are in the process of preparing that list and that is the only reason for the delay,” he said.

According to sources, a CPI(M) activist hailing from Mahe, said to be a member of the party’s so-called Action Group has been in the custody of the Thalassery police for the past couple of days. However, it is said that they are yet to receive solid evidences to implicate him in the murder case and that is why the arrest is being delayed.

The police had taken this CPI(M) activist into custody on the basis of a witness statement that he was at the spot of incident when Shamej was hacked to death in New Mahe but now the police are claiming that he was at another place when the incident occurred. “How many days would the police need to verify the veracity of thisIJ”
