Kanimozhi moves SC to quash CBI charge sheet

DMK patriarch Karunanidhi’s daughter and party MP K Kanimozhi approached the Supreme Court on Wednesday to quash the CBI charge sheet against her in the 2G spectrum scam.

The charge sheet against Kanimozhi filed before a Delhi court on October 22, 2011 had accused her of being present in the Board meeting of Kalaignar TV, in which she was a Director, when a sum of `200 crore was received from DB Realty, a spectrum beneficiary.

Since the payment was made between December 2008 and August 2009, CBI had evidence to claim that the said payment was alleged ‘bribe’ deposited by Swan Telecom limited, a front company promoted by DB Realty, for favours received from the then Telecom Minister A Raja, who belonged to DMK.

Kanimozhi sought quashing of the charge sheet against her on the ground that she was not connected with the affairs of Kalaignar TV, since her resignation from the Board of Directors on June 20, 2007. She even denied of being present in the Board meeting on February 13, 2009 where the company took a decision to receive `200 crore as unsecured loan.

The CBI discovered that the said amount was received in a circuitous route using two companies M/s Kusegaon Fruits and Vegetables ltd and Cineyug limited.
