The Goa Congress has relieved its spokesperson Durgadas Kamat, a day after his social media comment against dynasty politics in the wake of the party’s drubbing in Maharashtra and Haryana Assembly elections.
The order issued on Monday named two others as party spokespersons, who according to the order “shall go to the Press with prior consent and after discussing the issues with the undersigned”. The order was signed by congress general secretary Arturo Sequeira.
Kamat, in his Facebook post, had called for introspection and ending dynasty rule. “End should be put to dynasty politics whether at the Centre or States. Young people who perform and do not have political godfathers should be brought forward in the best interest of Indian politics,” Kamat wrote.
“(If they) get in young blood without familyraj, the result would have been different. Hope in Goa our people understand the same and not tell me to keep my mouth shut against the Government,” Kamat also said.
The Goa Congress recently shunted out the State president who had appointed Kamat as spokesperson. The shunting out of his ‘team’ was expected to follow.
Kamat confirmed his sacking but refused to budge. “I am a loyal soldier of the Congress and my actions are in sync with the best interests of my party. I will continue to work for the Congress in any position,” Kamat said.
