JVM delegation requests President to intervene

A Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (JVM) delegation met President Pranab Mukherjee on Tuesday, requesting him to dissolve the Jharkhand Assembly as efforts of forming an alternative Government would only pave the way for horse trading.

The delegation was led by former Chief Minister and JVM chief Babulal Marandi and it handed over a memorandum to the President. Jharkhand Assembly has been kept in suspended animation for the past five months, giving hope to the people that elections will be declared soon.

“The three primary parties - BJP, JVM and AJSU - are of the view that fresh elections should be announced after dissolving the Assembly. All three have already conveyed the message through a letter in January,” Marandi noted in his memorandum.

According to him, despite having only 31 seats together with its allies in the Assembly, the Congress has been making useless efforts to form an alternative Government in alliance with the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha. A majority of 42 MlAs is required for Government formation.

“In this situation, if one makes an attempt to form an alternative Government, it will be unstable and formed on the basis of horse trading. This will again be cheating the people of Jharkhand,” said Marandi.

He added, “It is against the will of the people to keep the Assembly suspended.”

JVM spokesperson Saroj Singh said, “The President has assured us that he will talk to the Prime Minister and will take steps according to provisions of law.”
