The Jamiat Ulama-e-Maharashtra (JUeM), which had provided legal aid to the accused in the December 2002-March 2003 blasts, on Tuesday announced its plans to move the Bombay High Court against the Special POTA court verdict, convicting 10 out of 13 accused in the triple blasts.
“After going through the entire judgement, we intend to challenge the special court’s order in a higher court.... We respect the special court’s order, but we would move the high court,” Gulzar Azmi, the Secretary of legal Aid department of JUeM, said.
Azmi rooted for the state government setting up a fast track courts to try accused in the terror related cases. “The cases should be disposed off within stipulated period of two years so that accused who have been acquitted for lack of evidence need not languish in jail for prolonged periods,” he said.
