Vijayakanth, leader of the Opposition in Tamil Nadu legislative Assembly was issued a stern warning on Thursday by a city judge for not appearing before the court in connection with a defamation case filed against the former on behalf of Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.
Chokkalingam, the principal sessions court judge, Chennai, had summoned Vijayakanth to appear before him on Thursday on a defamation case filed on behalf of Jayalalithaa by one of the AIADMK functionaries. The case was in response to certain remarks made by Vijayakanth during his speech in a public meeting at Chennai.
When Judge Chokkalingam called for Vijayakanth, his lawyer Balaji told the judge that a plea had been filed in the court to exempt the actor-turned-politician from making a personal appearance.
