Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi on Sunday sought all MPs to make the first session of the 17th Lok Sabha successful by debating all the issues and giving respect to the people’s mandate.
The Parliament session is set to begin on June 17 and will continue till July 26. The speaker of the Lower House is likely to be appointed on June 19.
Union Budget will be presented on 5 July and Economic Survey will be presented on July 4, he said.
President Ram Nath Kovind will address the joint sitting of the two houses of Parliament on the first day of the session. Maneka Gandhi, eight-time MP is expected to be appointed as pro-tem Speaker, a stop-gap arrangement, the same day.
Both Houses will also take up the Motion of Thanks on which PM Modi will give his reply.
While the 16th Lok Sabha passed the critical Citizenship Amendment Bill in the Winter Session of Parliament in 2018, it awaits passage in the Rajya Sabha where Opposition still has the majority.
Requesting Opposition’s cooperation in the smooth conduct of the upcoming Lok Sabha session, newly-appointed Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi said the government was ready for discussion on any issue.
“I request all the opposition parties, people have given unprecedented mandate in favour of Narendra Modi and the BJP. For five years lets successfully conduct the sessions and discuss on issues. The government is ready for discussion on any issue,” Joshi said at Bengaluru.
He said it is common belief that in the Lok Sabha there should be debates, discussions and not disruptions.
“So following the peoples mandate lets all work together- is our request to all the opposition parties. In the days to come we will call a meeting in this regard, so I seek their cooperation,” Joshi said.
