Delhi Police on Friday questioned Delhi BJP leader Vijay Jolly for around four hours at Saket police station for defacing the nameplate of Tehelka’s former Managing Editor Shoma Chaudhury outside her residence in Saket. He has again been asked to appear before the police on Saturday to record his statement.
A case of rioting, wrongful restrain and defacement has been lodged against Jolly and his supporters at Saket Police Station. Jolly, who was supposed to be present in the police station at 10 am, came four hours late and was accompanied by his lawyers. “Jolly arrived at Saket police station around 2 pm along with advocates and was questioned by the SHO till 6 pm. Jolly was given a questionnaire related to the incident,” a senior police officer said, adding that he was asked questions about the source of the paint which he had brought to the spot.
“We also asked him who had directed him to register a protest in that manner and asked him to appear again on Saturday to record his statement,” the officer added. Police, however, said he was unlikely to be arrested immediately. Meanwhile, BJP president Rajnath Singh said Vijay Jolly met him personally and tendered unconditional apology for his act. “Jolly also offered his resignation from all party posts. I feel, this chapter should be closed now. Moreover, an FIR has already been registered against him. The law will take its course,” Singh said.
