In a shocking incident, a 25-year-old jilted lover, along with his 19-year-old cousin, allegedly stabbed a 21-year-old girl at her residence in outer Delhi’s Najafgarh area on Wednesday afternoon after she repeatedly refused to establish physical relations with him.

The girl has been admitted in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Safdarjung hospital with critical deep stab injuries. Doctors at the hospital performed seven-hour long surgery to save her and in the process removed one of her kidneys as it was badly damaged in the attack.

Probe has revealed that after managing to gain entry into the girl’s house, the accused stabbed her after she resisted his rape bid.

According to Rishi Pal, Deputy Commissioner of Police (outer district), two accused, Amit and his cousin Basant, have been arrested by police on Thursday morning.

“The girl suffered nine stab injuries on her body. We have recovered both the knives used in the crime from their possession. Amit bought these two knives for Rs 15 each, a day before he tried to hack the girl to death,” the DCP said.

A senior police officer said, “It was due to the help of Amit’s father, an ASI in the Delhi Police, that Amit, along with his, cousin was nabbed by the police teams from the house of the one of the relatives where they went into hiding.”

Talking about the well planned attempt to harm the girl, a schoolteacher, police said before going to the girl’s house the main accused Amit, who is in good terms with the victim’s elder brother, called him. They lived in the same neighbourhood. “He made sure that there was no one at home when he attack the girl,” said a senior police officer. The officer said Amit got married to another girl three months ago and was currently unemployed.

“At around 2pm on Wednesday, while the girl was preparing food, Amit along with, Basant entered the house. While Amit allegedly tried to force himself on the girl, she pushed him off. Enraged over this, Amit and Basant started stabbing the girl till she collapsed on the ground,” said the DCP.

It was only when a 13-year-old girl, youngest sister of the victim, came out of her room that she saw her sister bleeding profusely on the kitchen floor.

Waiting outside the Intensive Care Unit of the Safdarjung hospital in South Delhi, Ajit Singh, father of the girl told The Pioneer that he got to know about the incident through one of their neighbours.

“My 13-year-old daughter informed me one of our neighbours who then made the call to the Police Control Room. The local police then rushed my daughter, brutally injured, to Rao Tula Ram Memorial hospital in Jaffarpur Kalan. Doctors told us that the stab injuries which my daughter suffered were so deep that most of her nerves were damaged. She was then referred to the Safdarjung Hospital. We brought her here,” he said.

Monu, a cousin of the girl, said, “Since 11:30 pm on Wednesday, doctors at this hospital operated on her for nearly seven hours. The surgery ended at 6:30 am. Doctors informed us that the stab injuries have affected her kidneys so badly that one of her kidneys had to be removed. Even one of her eyes was slit in the attack by Amit and his cousin.”

Returning towards her bedside, Singh added, “Having lived in Delhi for the past 12 years, I never thought that something like this would happen to my children. Beta ho ya beti, aaj ki date mein koi safe nahi hai (Be it a daughter or a son, in today’s date, no one is safe).

Singh further said Amit tried to trespass on their house two to three times in the recent past.”Two months ago, my wife, Maya kicked Amit out of the house when he tried to forcefully enter our house and meet our daughter. He has tried to forcefully meet our daughter, but she always refused to keep in touch with him.”

On being asked why he did not complain to police about Amit’s behaviour with his daughter, Singh said, “We never complained to police because my daughter never shared anything about Amit.”

Till the filing of this report, the condition of the girl was stated to be critical. Police registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code at the Najafgarh police station.
