A jeweller was shot at by a bike-borne assailant in Farsh Bazar in East Delhi on Sunday. The incident took place around 10 am and injured jeweller was identified as Akhil Kumar, 30. He was admitted to Max Hospital in Patparganj.

The accused also robbed a woman of her scooty and fled from the spot. A case of attempt to murder has been registered and the police are investigating the case.

According to the police, a biker came to the jewellery stores with a kara (bangle) 10 minutes after jewellery shops were opened in the area. He first went to a shop and asked the attendant if he would buy the bangle that he had won from gambling. When the attendant refused, the accused crossed over to another shop situated just opposite the road.

“Witnesses told us that the accused soon picked up an argument with the second shopkeeper. He took out a gun from his pocket and fires two shots. While one bullet hits Akhil in his stomach, the other hit him on his thigh. He is now stated to be stable but doctors say they will need to observe him for some more time,” said Ajay Kumar, DCP (East). Robbery does not seem to be motive for the attack, police said.
