Jet Airways likely to begin domestic ops from first quarter of ’22

Grounded for over two years, Jet Airways is expected to resume domestic operations in the first quarter of 2022.

The airline plans to restart operations with a flight from New Delhi to Mumbai. The airline also would now be headquartered in Delhi instead of Mumbai.

After the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) cleared  Jalan Kalrock consortium's plan to revive Jet Airways, the airline is working closely with authorities and airport coordinators to finalise slot allocations among other things.

Jet Airways had ceased operations in April 2019 and has become the first Indian carrier to be revived under the bankruptcy laws. In its new avatar, Jet will be based in Delhi NCR and not Mumbai like Jet Airways 1.0.

In a statement, Murari Lal Jalan, Lead Member of the Jalan Kalrock Consortium and the proposed non-executive chairman of the airline, said, "Jet Airways 2.0 aims at restarting domestic operations by Q1-2022, and short haul international operations by Q3/Q4 2022."

"Our plan is to have 50-plus aircraft in three years and 100 plus planes in five years, which also fits perfectly well with the short-term and long-term business plan of the Consortium," he noted.

"The aircraft are being selected based on competitive long term leasing solutions. It is the first time in the history of aviation that an airline grounded for more than two years is being revived and we are looking forward to being a part of this historic journey," Jalan said.

The Consortium's statement read that the revival plan for Jet Airways is being implemented as approved by NCLT and all the creditors will be settled according to the plan in the coming months.

The process of reviving the grounded carrier is on track with the existing Air Operator Certificate (AOC) already under process for revalidation, it mentioned.

“It is the first time in the history of aviation that an airline grounded for more than 2 years is being revived and we are looking forward to being a part of this historic journey. The brand Jet Airways has a huge loyalty-base and we are confident that with industry stalwarts like Capt Gaur, we will be able to capitalize and create new benchmarks,” he said.

The revival plan for Jet Airways is being implemented as approved by NCLT and all the creditors will be settled as per the plan in the coming months, the consortium said in a statement.
