A day after the ruling JD(U) expressed strong displeasure over not being invited to the inauguration of a branch of the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) in Kishanganj in Bihar, a political row has erupted with the BJP and the Congress taking dig at Nitish Kumar and his Government.
“Jaisi karni waisee bharni… why is Nitish Kumar taking umbrage over this as he has all along been doing the same with the BJP in the NDA Government,” said BJP leader and former Minister Giriraj Singh.
Senior BJP leader Shushil Kumar Modi too took a dig at Nitish Kumar saying which way Kumar would like to go in the poll. “The Congress party has not even said anything on Nitish Kumar’s special status demand but our party’s PM candidate Narendra Modi has earlier declared that he would give special package to the State after coming to power,” he said.
Meanwhile, the State Congress leaders too have taken on the Bihar Chief Minister for expressing his displeasure over not being invited to the AMU function. “It was all the Congress party’s plan to open AMU branches at different locations in the country and Kishanganj was one of them. If the State Government had provided the land on time the AMU would have been functional,” said Ashralul Haque, Congress MP from Kishanganj.
“The JD(U) has lost all its moral right to express displeasure over the AMU function and what Nitish Kumar has been doing during his regime everyone knows it in the State. After all the AMU is coming up in Bihar which will benefit all,” said State Congress leader Umakant Singh.
Earlier, the Bihar Chief Minister has become furious for not being invited to the inauguration of the AMU’s branch which would be inaugurated by Congress president Sonia Gandhi on January 30.
“It is highly objectionable to leave out the State Government. It was my idea to set up the university’s branch in Kishenganj. We gave the entire land free of cost to the university and the Centre didn’t invite us,” rued the Bihar Chief Minister while adding that “it shows the UPA Government’s work culture and nature.”
State Education Minister PK Shahi too had written a protest letter to the Centre saying it was “a deliberate attempt to ignore the State Government”.
However, the political buzz is that both the parties Congress and JD(U) wanted to score over each other while taking credit for opening AMU in a minority dominated constituency of Kishanganj and “in the first round the Congress has scored over”.
“let’s see who will score the next goal where and how against whom,” said a political observer.
