A day after an Army sentry shot dead his four colleagues before shooting himself in Manasbal area of kashmir, a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) committed suicide in central district Budgam on Friday evening.

Subedar Surinder Singh, a resident of Punjab shot himself with his service rifle at 2-Rashtriya Rifles camp in Soibugh pocket of Budgam, sources said. He was evacuated to hospital where he succumbed to injuries.

The reason for the soldier’s extreme step was not known. Experts say that soldiers deployed for counter-insurgency operations in embattled Kashmir face “battle fatigue” and often react in violent manner on issues with seniors or while coping with stress. A sentry Ranvir Singh killed his six colleagues during Thursday night at Manasbal Garrison in Safapora pocket of Ganderbal district. The army has ordered an inquiry by a colonel to know the circumstances which led to the fratricidal killings.
