No additional information has been provided by the Tamil Nadu Police about the mystery shrouding the death of C Kanakaraj (36), ex-driver of former CM J Jayalalithaa, who was killed in a hit-and-run case in Salem district on Saturday. But Dhanapal, elder brother of Kanakaraj told reporters of local Tamil newspapers that he suspected foul play in the death of his sibling.
Tamil Nadu Police had found out that Kanakaraj, who worked as a driver in the Kodanadu Estates owned by Jayalalithaa was the first accused in the murder of Om Bahadur, the security guard manning one of the gates of the estate on April 24. Rafeeq, the driver of the car who has been arrested since then, belonged to Salem district.
Dhanapal alleged that no explanation was given by the police in delaying the autopsy and charged that Kanakaraj was being chased by the police before he rammed the bike into the car. Meanwhile, Sayan, the second accused in the murder of Om Bahadur, who has been admitted to a Coimbatore Hospital after grievously injuring in a car accident was getting well , according to the doctors attending to him.
The murder of Om Bahadur and the death of Kanakaraju has put Tamil Nadu’s political grapevine in full motion churning out spicy stories about the motives behind the murder and robbery.
However, the Nilgiris Police claimed it had cracked the estate attack case and said it was a case of robbery and the security guard died of suffocation. The police said they have taken into custody four members of the gang which robbed the estate and further investigation was on.
