Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa who has been under treatment at Apollo Hospitals in Chennai following fever and dehydration since September 22 is recovering well, according to a release issued by the management of the hospital late on Sunday night.
The AIADMK leaders and cadre who have been keeping round-the-clock vigil outside the hospital following rumours and hearsay about the health of the Chief Minister could be seen heaving a sigh of relief by Monday morning when it became known that she is well and fine.
“The Chief Minister is responding well to treatment and her condition continues to improve. She has been advised a few more days stay in the hospital for treatment,” said the release issued by S Viswanathan, Chief Operating Officer, Apollo Hospitals.
A former editor of the pro-CPI(M) English daily published from Chennai in her tweet said that Jayalalithaa was conscious for sure.
Thol Thirumavalavan, leader of the VCK, visited the hospital on Monday morning to enquire about Jayalalithaa’s health. “A senior AIADMK leader told me that the chief minister is well and fine. I did not call on her as I was told that she needs rest. Rumours appearing in the social media about Jayalalithaa’s health are totally false,” said Thirumavalavan.
What was striking was the unease calm in Fort Saint George, Tamil Nadu’s seat of power in Chennai. As the chief minister is away in the hospital, all ministers and higher secretaries were not to be seen around. Though the subordinate staff are present in the sprawling secretariat premises, governance has come to a standstill.
