J Jayalalithaa, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, who is undergoing treatment at Apollo Hospitals in Chennai since September 22 has fully recovered and is normal, according to Dr Pratap C Reddy, chairman of the hospital.
“The Chief Minister is speaking for a few minutes everyday using a speaking aid. Usually, we have to train people who have undergone tracheostomy to speak with the speaking aid. In the case of the Chief Minister, it is only a temporary arrangement and we are not going to train her,” Dr Reddy told journalists on Friday..
Dr Reddy, who headed the team of doctors who treated Jayalalithaa said she was breathing on her own. “Ninety per cent of the time, she breathes on her own. It is only for some ten percent she needs help,” he said.
The doctor also said that Jayalalithaa has been shifted to a private ward from the Intensive Care Unit and she was quite happy with the present status of her health. But he declined to give any time frame for the chief minister to return to her home. “It has to be decided by the chief minister herself. She is undergoing physiotherapy. The chief minister is known for her will power and strength and we are sure that the day is not far away when she stands on her feet on her own and start walking towards her car,” said Dr Reddy.
He said it is quite natural for any person to take time in standing on his/her feet after a prolonged stay in the ICU. Dr Reddy had told last week also that the chief minister had fully recovered from her ailment.
Jayalalithaa had issued a signed statement on Tuesday thanking the people of the three assembly constituencies from where the AIADMK candidates were elected with big margin. She had thanked the people for remaining with her and praying for her health in the crucial hours and promised them that she would soon be back with them.
