A  Division Bench of the Madras High Court observed on Tuesday that the people of the State had the right to know the status of the Chief Minister’s health. Justices MM Sundresh and R Mahadevan made the observation while hearing a public interest litigation petition filed by social activist “Traffic” Ramaswamy making a plea to the court to issue orders to concerned authorities to come out with the health Status of Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa who has been admitted to Apollo Hospitals since September 22 following fever and dehydration.

According to Ramaswamy, the State of Tamil Nadu was full of rumours about the CM’s health status.

“This has impacted life in Chennai and most of the places saw shops and business establishments downing shutters,” said Ramaswami.

The judges said though the hospital authorities were  issuing occasional statements the Government was duty bound to provide the status of her health. Meanwhile a release by the management of the Apollo Hospital on Tuesday said that there was improvement in the health of the Chief Minister.

“The same line of treatment is being continued. The Chief Minister is under close observation by the team of doctors,” said the release issued in the name of S Viswanathan, chief operating officer, Apollo Hospitals.

Viswanathan further said that Jayalalithaa has been advised further stay in the hospital.
