Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa welcomed the 2014-2015 Union Budget presented by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Thursday. “It is a forward looking exercise in positivity. The Union Budget 2014-15 reflects the seriousness with which the new Government of India has set about the task of addressing the challenge of revival of growth and improving the macro-economic situation of the country. It is a very responsible document which has placed fiscal prudence at the fore-front and at the same time addresses the heightened expectations from the new Government,” Jayalalithaa said in a release.
She patted the Finance Minister for giving concrete shape to many of the announcements made in the President’s Address to the joint session of the Parliament on June 9.She cautioned the Union Government on the move to bring in FDI in various sectors and demanded that the retail sector should not be allowed to have FDI.
Jayalalithaa was all praise for the move to establish 100 Smart Cities and pointed out that Tamil Nadu with the highest urbanisation rate among larger States in the country should naturally be the location for a large number of the planned Smart Cities. She also requested the Finance Minister to extend the proposed Chennai-Bangalore and Vizag-Chennai National Industrial Corridors to the Madurai-Thoothukudi Industrial Corridor and set up an East Coast Corridor so that the backward areas in Tamil Nadu are benefited.
Jayalalithaa thanked the Prime Minister for setting up the National Institute of Ageing at the Madras Medical College and the proposal to build an Ultra Mega solar Power Plant in the State. “I expect that this forward looking Budget will lead to economic revival and ensure that further incentives to growth can be afforded in the next two to three years,” said the Chief Minister.
