The Jammu & Kashmir government on Wednesday sent a detailed report to the Centre on the controversial release of separatist leader Masarat Alam, a day after BJP sent a stern message to its alliance partner PDP. Dissatisfied with the clarifications submitted by the J&K Government to the Union Home Ministry in the case of hardline separatist leader Masarat Alam, the Centre on Wednesday had rushed the most senior Home Ministry officials to Jammu to prepare a fresh dossier ahead of issuing fresh statement in the Parliament to contain the Opposition onslaught.
According to official sources, "Senior officials of the Home Ministry on their arrival in Jammu collected relevant records pertaining to all those cases registered against Masarat Alam from the State Home Department and also called on Chief Minister Mufti Mohd Sayeed before returning to New Delhi". According to official sources, the Home Ministry officials were tasked to prepare a fresh dossier after Home Minister Rajnath Singh came under attack from the Opposition benches in the Parliament as fresh set of letters surfaced saying the decision to set free Masarat Alam was initiated during Governor's Rule in the State.
The Home Ministry officers were keen on gathering information related to all the pending cases pending against the separatist leader in order to explore the possibility of slapping fresh charges against him. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mufti Mohd Sayeed on Wednesday chaired a Cabinet meeting in Jammu to discuss the draft of the Governor's address ahead of the Budget Session of the State Assembly starting from March 18. On the other hand, State BJP leaders continued to demand the re-arrest of Masarat Alam to diffuse the crisis.
