J&K CM inaugurates Teachers' Bhawan for 2nd time

Published on:

Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday inaugurated a Teachers’ Bhawan for the second time 26 months after former Congress Minister Raman Bhalla had dedicated the same building to teaching community at Government Girls High School Gandhi Nagar in Jammu.

Before contesting the 2014 Assembly polls, the former Congress Minister had even showcased his king size hoardings in his Assembly constituency listing his achievements.

Ironically on Tuesday when Mehbooba Mufti inaugurated the state-of-the art Teachers Bhawan Bhalla remained conspicuous by his absence.

Bhalla had earlier inaugurated the building built at a cost of 6.3 crores on October 21, 2014.

Deputy Chief Minister Prof Nirmal Singh, Education Minister Nayeem Akhtar and other senior officers of the state education department were present on the occasion.

The new inauguration stone was erected in front of the original foundation stone laid by the Congress-National Conference alliance govt.

On the occasion Mehbooba also inaugurated an air conditioned Auditorium with a seating capacity of 500 on Tuesday.

The state govt spent a cumulative amount of over13.50 crore on both the buildings.

Earlier on Monday National Conference Working President and Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah  while criticising the poor performance of the alliance govt had stated “PDP-BJP Government’s existence had been restricted to mere photo-ops, recycled foundation-stones and press statements that contradicted the hopeless sense of affairs on ground.”

Addressing NC workers from the three blocks of Narbal, Khag and Beerwah, Omar Abdullah had expressed disappointment at the “complete breakdown” of administrative order and machinery in the State.

Teacher’s Bhawan would provide free accommodation to teachers who visit Jammu from other districts for official work.

Addressing a gathering after the inaugurations, the Chief Minister said that we need to be sensitive to the needs of not only the students but the teachers as well. She said the teachers need to be given trainings and refresher courses on periodic basis.
