Jamia terms charges over land sale NOC as frivolous

Jamia Millia Islamia has deemed the follow-up allegations regarding the issuance of a no-objection certificate (NOC) to an individual for selling a piece of land to a private entity as frivolous.

The university claimed that these allegations are driven by ulterior motives stemming from vested interests of certain individuals.

Recently, Alumni Association of Jamia (AAJMI) issued a statement requesting the university authorities to cancel its decision to grant NOC to the person in possession of the land to sale it.

According to AAJMI, the land belongs to the university. However, the Jamia administration has labeled AAJMI as defunct, clarifying that the active alumni body in the university is the Alumni Connect.

The Jamia administration said, "During the Executive Council (EC) meeting, the agenda item was thoroughly discussed, leading to a decision. Detailed deliberations have been documented in the meeting minutes.

"Following extensive discussions within the Executive Council, four members supported the proposal that Jamia should grant the NOC instead of purchasing the land, while three members of the Executive Council — designated as President’s nominees, namely Professor Sanjay Srivastava, Dr Md Raihan, and Professor SNL Das — expressed their objection to the NOC. As a result, five members, including the chairperson, gave their assent for the grant of the NOC.
