The Jharkhand Jaguar is swiftly getting more teeth. Apart from being trained in independent anti-Naxal operations, two of its personnel have now been selected for a five-week special crisis response course, under the United States Anti-Terrorist Assistance Programme.
JJ Senior Deputy Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Kumar and Inspector Neeraj Kumar Singh were selected from among 24 nominees nationally.
“Training is focused on enabling them to handle crises that erupt due to a terrorist attack or natural calamities, like an earthquake or tsunami,” said JJ DIG Praveen Singh.
According to Kumar, these two officers have been selected on the basis of several nominations sent from the State police headquarters to the Ministry of Home Affairs.
After 9/11, US is said to have developed expertise in crisis response and is looking to propagate their experiences in friendly countries. “The training is completely sponsored by the US Government,” said Sanjeev Kumar. Neeraj Kumar believes it will only help the Jaguar tackle the menace of Naxalism. “This is basically a training of trainer course, in which we will have to teach other officers here after coming back from the US,” he added.
