With the indefinite fast of jailed YSR Congress president Jaganmohan Reddy completing fifth day on Thursday and his health deteriorating, the authorities of Chanchalguda Central jail are keeping a close watch on the situation.

Jagan has not been eating anything for the past five days demanding justice to both Telangana and Andhra regions and opposing bifurcation of the State.

Senior officials headed by Director General of Prisons Sambasiva Rao met at the jail to discuss the situation and decided to move in accordance with the advice of the team of doctors. After a blood test on Thursday morning, doctors said that Jagan’s blood sugar level had fallen drastically and his health had weakened.

However, Jagan rejected doctor’s advice to resume taking food. Though jail manual does not allow a prisoner to refuse food, the jail officials had decided not to take any harsh measure or force to feed the young politician in view of the sensitive nature of the issue of the State bifurcation. But they have stopped allowing anybody to meet Jagan in jail.

Jagan, who is in jail for the past 15 months in disproportionate assets case, has been opposing the move of the Congress party in favour of formation of Telangana State.

With rumours spreading about the health condition of Jagan in jail, YSR Congress party leaders were stepping up their pressure and holding protests in Rayalaseema

and Andhra. They also tried to hold a demonstration outside Chanchalguda jail but they were dispersed.

Meanwhile, Telangana supporters were angry with the Government and the officials for their lenient attitude towards Jagan. They were demanding that Jagan should shifted to some other jail outside the State, possibly Tihar Jail in Delhi.
