Jagan continues his fast even in hospital

More than 12 hours after he was shifted from Chanchalguda Jail to Osmania Hospital in view of his deteriorating health condition, YSR Congress Party chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy was continuing his indefinite fast in protest against proposed bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.

Even after his mother Vijayalaksmi and other senior party leaders made appeal to end the fast in view of the adamant attitude of the Congress, Jagan refused to break his fast.

In a dramatic action around midnight on Thursday Jagan was brought to Osmania Hospital in a bulletproof car. His supporters tried to stop the convoy of vehicles but the police used mild force to disperse them and cleared the way. The entire route from Chanchalguda Jail to the hospital was sealed and heavy police deployment was made to keep the intruders away.

Clad in a red T-shirt and appearing exhausted, Jagan walked from the car into the hospital. The police made elaborate arrangements outside Osmania Hospital to keep the protesters at bay.

Jail Superintendent Saidaiah said that the decision to shift him to hospital was taken in view of his worsening health condition. “We were not in a position to manage his health and doctors advised him to shift to hospital,” he said.

Meanwhile, Jagan’s mother Vijayalakshmki and wife Bharati moved a petition before the CBI Special Court seeking permission to be with Jagan in view of his serious health condition. The court was yet to respond.
