In a heartfelt gesture recognizing the extraordinary bravery of Syed Adil Hussain Shah, a local pony ride operator who sacrificed his life protecting tourists during the April 22, 2025, terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha visited the martyr’s family on Saturday.

At their home in the Hapatnar area of Pahalgam, Anantnag district, Sinha handed over a Government job appointment letter to Shah’s widow, Gulnaz Akhter, as a symbol of gratitude for her husband’s selfless service.

The visit, accompanied by senior police and civil officials, underscored the administration’s commitment to supporting the families of those who make the ultimate sacrifice in the face of terrorism.

“The Government job to martyr Adil’s wife symbolises our deep gratitude. I have assured his family members of concrete measures and continuous support so that they may live a life of dignity,” Sinha told reporters after interacting with Akhter, Shah’s family, and local villagers.

Syed Adil Hussain Shah, a 32-year-old pony ride operator, was among the 26 victims killed in the brutal terror attack at Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam on April 22, 2025.  Shah, a father of two young children, was hailed as a hero for his courageous attempt to shield tourists from the attackers, sacrificing his life in the process.

His bravery earned widespread admiration, with the nation mourning his loss and celebrating his valor.

“Adil’s sacrifice is a testament to the courage of ordinary citizens who stand up against terror. The whole country is proud of his bravery,” Sinha said in a post on X, sharing images of the emotional moment when he handed over the appointment letter to Akhter.

The permanent job, offered in the fisheries department in Anantnag, aims to provide financial stability to the family, which lost its sole breadwinner.

Sinha also informed that the Jammu and Kashmir administration, in coordination with the Ministry of Home Affairs, had already provided financial assistance to Shah’s family in recognition of his heroism. Additionally, several state governments across India have extended support, acknowledging the significance of his sacrifice.

On June 1, Assam Agriculture Minister Atul Bora visited the residence of Adil Shah and handed over a cheque of Rs 5 lakh to Shah’s family as financial assistance from the Assam Government.
