It's Modi's defeat: Anna on Delhi polls

Congratulating his erstwhile team member and AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal for his party’s stupendous victory in the Delhi Assembly polls, renowned  social activist Anna Hazare on Tuesday described the electoral mandate as a ‘defeat’ of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Talking to mediapersons in his native village of Ralegan-Siddhi in western Maharashtra, Hazare said: “During the campaign, Modiji addressed as many as six huge public rallies in Delhi. If Arvind’s party has posted a spectacular victory even after that, then I look at the electoral outcome as the defeat of Narendra Modi”.

In his continued criticism of the Prime Minister, Hazare said: “Modi had promised the people during the lok Sabha polls that his Government would bring back black money stashed away in foreign banks and deposit a sum of Rs15 lakh in the bank accounts of every Indian. The people, especially urban poor, believed him. But he did not keep his promise”. Hazare said that if the AAP scored an unprecedented victory in the Delhi polls, it was because the “achhe din only came for industrialists” after the Narendra Modi-led NDA Government came to power at the Centre eight months ago.

Reacting to the Delhi poll outcome, Hazare said: “ I had said earlier that both Arvind and Kiran Bedi were members of my agitation. It was known that either one of them would become the Chief Minister of Delhi. Now that Arvind is becoming the next Chief Minister of Delhi, I convey my best wishes to him. Why has the BJP suffered such a humiliating defeatIJ  The reason for the BJP’s defeat is that it failed to keep its electoral promises and as a result, its credibility went down in the eyes of people”  “Nine months have passed, but no one in the Government talks about rooting out corruption. .. lokpal and lokayukta legislation have been enacted, but they are not being implemented, Hazare said.
