In the fake encounter case of Ishrat Jahan and four others, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) opposed the discharge pleas of retired DIG D G Vanzara and another Senior cop NK Amin on Friday.
Ishrat and her accomplices were killed in an encounter on the outskirts of Ahmedabad in June 2004 by ATS team of Gujarat police. According to ATS cops Ishrat and her accomplices had planned to assassinate then Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
Opposing the discharge pleas, the CBI stated that it had proofs to corroborate involvement of presence of NK Amin at the spot of encounter, as well as establish Vanzara to be the mastermind of entire operation. Next hearing in the court is slated on May 5, 2018.
Both the accused in the case claimed innocence and sought discharge from CBI charge-sheet. They moved court seeking discharge after DGP P P Pandey was discharged by the special court in the case in February this year. Vanzara had claimed that the charges against him were politically motivated.
His plea claimed that he too more or less was facing same charges as Pandey and so should be acquitted.
The central agency is considering Vanzara as the main conspirator in the case. As far as Amin is concern, CBI said that there were adequate evidences against him which proved his presence during the encounter. The CBI officials said that forensic evidence proved that Amin fired from his gun. The CBI presented its case after court sought its view on whether plea by Vanzara and Amin be accepted and approved.
