An unidentified intruder was, apparently, blown into pieces near the line of Control in Saujiyan sector of Poonch in the wee hours of Monday after the alert Indian troops claimed to have foiled yet another infiltration bid.

According to reports, an intruder, believed to be a Pakistani, was blown into pieces near forward Indian ‘Nallah’ post shortly after he was spotted and challenged by the Indian troopers while he was attempting to cross the loC.

Unconfirmed reports initially claimed that the unidentified Pakistani intruder, carrying explosive material on his person, was blown into pieces after, inadvertently, stepping on to the powerful landmine in the area. These reports also claimed that the Indian troops could only managed to recover his head and one leg from the forward area when thorough search and cordon operations were carried out in the area after the daybreak.

later in the evening, Jammu-based spokesman of the Ministry of Defence, Col RK Palta claimed, “It was around 4.30 am when alert troops in Saujiyan Sector of Poonch observed suspicious movement in the vicinity of a post. Troops immediately challenged the intruder and during the ensuing fire-fight one terrorist was killed. The terrorist was carrying some explosives, which detonated as a result of firing by the troops, leading to severe mutilation of the terrorist.”

Col Palta said, “The incident highlights the continued attempts of terrorists to infiltrate across the loC as this is the second attempt by the terrorists in the last three-four days to trespass the loC in the same sector.” Meanwhile, keeping in view the prevailing security situation in the Kashmir Valley the Army is maintaining tight vigil along the loC in the wake of surge in the overall number of infiltration bids.
