A case has been filed in Bangalore against Daniel Farid, an international under-19 player, for allegedly forging documents to play in under-15 matches. DCP Sandip Patil said, “A case has been filed against the international player for allegedly forging a birth certificate to be able to play in a junior category tournament.” The police are investigating, he added. A parent of another player had lodged a complaint against Karnataka Badminton Association three weeks ago, the police said. However, they were yet to determine if the Association was involved.
The complainant had said in the complaint the Karnataka Badminton Association had allowed Daniel to play despite the Badminton Association of India indicting him for submitting false documents regarding his age. The complainant had demanded KBA ban the player. The court had indicted a few player for submitting false documents, the complainant added.
Reacting to the allegations, KBA president, U Vimal Kumar, said the BAI had granted permission for the indicted players to play as the court had found their papers to be valid.
