Special Cell of Delhi Police on Tuesday claimed to have busted a well-organised interstate gang of gunrunners after it arrested a 19-year-old engineering aspirant and recovered of 10 pistols from him. This gang was involved in the smuggling of illegal firearms from Madhya Pradesh. The accused has been identified as Ajay Alawa (19), a resident of Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh. He was arrested by a team of Special Cell.
“Ajay Alawa’s arrest resulted in the recovery of 10 semi-automatic sophisticated pistols of 7.65 mm along with five spare magazines from him,” said SN Srivastava, the Special Commissioner of Police, Special Cell. Alawa confessed he was working for Tanman Singh, a notorious arms supplier of Barwani in Madhya Pradesh. Investigations revealed that the accused had earlier supplied a consignment of illegal weapons previously in Agra, Mathura, Meerut and Delhi. He is a student of Class XII preparing for his engineering entrance, the Special CP added. He had rented an accommodation at Dharampuri area along with his other school friends where he came in contact with Tanman Singh. Poverty and a quick buck lured Ajay into this illegal trade. He was paid Rs3,000 for each delivery.
An inhouse study into the growing use of sophisticated firearms over last few years revealed that in most of the cases, illegal weapons used in commission of various crimes in Delhi, were manufactured and supplied from Barwani, MP and Munger, Bihar and later smuggled into Delhi and NCR.
