Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood announced on Saturday that International Yoga Day will be celebrated at 11 locations across the city on June 21.
The Chhatrasal Stadium in Model Town, North Delhi has been selected as the main venue, where around 10,000 participants will engage in yoga practice, supported by 5,000 volunteers from the Bharatiya Yog Sansthan.
The events will also be held at other venues including Thyagaraj Stadium, East Vinod Nagar Sports Complex, Jhilmil Colony, Bawana, Prahladpur, Bharat Nagar, Yamuna Bank, Najafgarh Stadium, Dwarka Sector-6 and Ashok Nagar Hockey Stadium. Each of these locations will host around 1,000 participants. The Government will provide yoga mats, T-shirts, water, and refreshments for all attendees.
Medical facilities, ambulances, fire safety arrangements, sanitation, fogging and power and water supply will be in place at every venue to ensure smooth conduct of the events. Delhi Police will manage security and traffic, with CCTV surveillance and designated parking areas set up.
Sood highlighted that the aim is to encourage yoga practice among students, teachers, and the wider community, promoting physical and mental well-being.
The event is expected to involve students and teachers from Delhi government schools, yoga instructors, NSS and NCC cadets and civil defence volunteers.
In addition to the yoga day celebrations, the Delhi government is running the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0” campaign, which encourages people to plant trees in honor of their mothers.
This campaign began in 2024 and supports the national goal of planting millions of saplings. Delhi plans to plant 3.7 lakh saplings during 2025-26, including trees, shrubs and bamboo.
Officials have been instructed to ensure
participation across schools, colleges, Government offices, and communities.
The campaign will continue through June, July and August, aiming to increase greenery and environmental awareness in the city.
