Insulting remarks: Maha Council suspends Paricharak for 18 months

In a development that came as victory of sorts to the Opposition Congress and the NCP, the Maharashtra legislative Council on Thursday suspended an Independent MlC and supporter of the ruling BJP Prashant Paricharak from the House for one-and-a-half years for allegedly “insulting” the wives of soldiers posted in the border areas.

The move came after the Opposition disrupted the proceedings for consecutive three days, demanding action against the BJP-backed legislator. Even the ruling Shiv Sena had joined the Opposition in demanding action against Paricharak.

Paricharak had said, “Army personnel, particularly soldiers, belonging Punjab, stay put at military camps in the border areas of the country all through the year. One such soldier, who was away from home for the whole year, receives a call from home and receives news that he has become father of a baby boy.”
