INlD too calls for 'Third Front'

After the efforts for resurrection of ‘Third Front’ by Trinamool Congress, Janata Dal (United) and BJD at national level, the Indian National lok Dal (INlD) on Wednesday advocated such a front to oust the Congress led UPA Government from the Centre.

Talking to The Pioneer, senior INlD leader and son of party chief Om Prakash Chautala, Abhey Singh Chautala said, “We are ready to join Third Front to give a jolt to the Congress and the BJP and the INlD would play an important role in this front”.

He said, “The Third Front is the need of the hour in the present political scenario. We will appreciate if all the like-minded regional parties come and start serious efforts in formation for the Third Front”.

The INlD leader said the Congress led UPA II Government is losing its ground very fast due to scams, corruption, nepotism, favoritism and high handedness.  He said BJP too was no different from ruling alliance. “They (BJP) fight with each other on petty issues. In these circumstances, the only way left is to form Third Front to teach lesson to both the parties,” added Chautala.

While remembering his grandfather Chaudhary Devi lal, Chautala said that for the first time when he was chief minister of Haryana in 1988, he thought of the third alternative with the help of RK Hegde, then chief minister of Karnatka, Biju Patnaik, then chief minister of Odisha and VP Singh of Janta Dal. He said Devi lal was the architect of the Third Front by bringing small anti-Congress parties together to form a viable third political force.

Another third front was formed in 1996 with a new name United Front, formulated by late Harkishen Singh Surjeet, then general secretary of CPM, in which Mulayam Singh Yadav also played an important role. However, the coalition of different political parties couldn’t survived for long.

Chautala said INlD is ready to shake hand with the likeminded parties and this was an appropriate time for formation of another Third Front, to root out Congress.

“INlD Chief Om Prakash Chautala will also play an active role in this Third Front, after coming out of jail,” said Chautala.

The INlD chief is presently under treatment at Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon after getting bail for six weeks on medical ground in JBT scam case.
