Indrani walks out of Byculla jail

After having been behind the bars for more than six and a half years for allegedly murdering her daughter Sheena Bora, media bigwig  Indrani Mukerjea walked out of jail on Friday, two days after she was granted bail by the Supreme Court.

Fifty-year-old Indrani looked relaxed in her a white salwar-suit, make-up and her gray locks well-coiffed, as she stepped out of Byculla women’s prison and got into a waiting car along with her lawyer Sana R. Khan. It was not immediately known if she headed directly home or some other location.

When media persons buttonholed her for a comment, she feebly smiled and said: “Khula aasman dekha… Bahut Khushi hui…” (I saw the open skies and felt very happy”.

Indrani said she was feeling better but added had not made any future plans.

On Wednesday, the apex court granted bail to Indrani against a surety of Rs.200,000. She was enlarged on bail after she approached the various courts for the 10th time since she was arrested in August 2015.
