An IndiGo Airlines' Dubai-Calicut flight was diverted to Mumbai on Thursday morning after a passenger misbehaved with fellow passengers.
The airline spokesperson said that Calicut-bound flight 6E-89 was diverted to Mumbai after the passenger on seat 5D, travelling with his brother, suddenly got violent and started misbehaving with the crew.
"The passenger concerned jumped on to a forward cart used for food and onboard merchandise and sat on it. The crew politely requested him to step down from the cart and he obliged," the spokesperson said.
Before long, the passenger turned violent and began `physically abusing' the other co-passenger even as the crew attempted to calm and control him.
Following the ruckus created by the passenger concerned, the Calicut-bound flight made a "precautionary landing" at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIS) here at around 9.15 am. Soon afterwards, the passenger was offloaded and handed over to the CISF and airport police.
The flight departed for its destination an hour later minus the offloaded passenger.
Though there was speculation in sections of the media that the passenger had raised pro-ISIS slogans, police spokesperson Ashok Dudhe said the passenger did not raise any slogans. "The passenger was detained for unruly conduct on the flight. He did not raise any slogans. He is being questioned for his misbehaviour," Dudhe said.
