In an effort to ensure safety and security of Sikh pilgrims, the Indian High Commission in Pakistan is coordinating with the local authorities in Pakistan.  Pilgrims are travelling there for Gurpurab celebrations on the occasion of Guru Nanak Dev’s birthday on Tuesday.  The first Sikh guru was born at Nankana Sahib there.

A consular team from the Indian High Commission in Islamabad is on the ground to take care of the pilgrims’ needs and facilitate their safe travels to several gurdwaras in Pakistan during the week-long birth anniversary celebrations of Guru Nanak Dev.

Several jathas or groups of pilgrims, comprising around 2,418 Sikh devotees crossed the Attari-Wagah border on Sunday to make the pilgrimage to Nankana Sahib in the Punjab province of Pakistan.
