Cyber security expert and former IT head of the Israeli Security Agency (ISA), Zori Kor, on Thursday said India should be more aware of the importance of having cyber security but it was ‘unfortunate’ that it was not the case. It can have a ripple effect on the economy, he pointed out.
Kor, who is on a visit to India in connection with an upcoming homeland security conference in Israel, observed, “As the public still doesn’t understand how complex the challenge is, may be some decision makers are hesitating whether to take the necessary steps in order to meet the future challenges.”
For India, the time to act and recognize importance of cyber security was now, he said even as he averred that the two countries have many common ‘opponents’.
“I am sure that once India will be aware of cyber threats, the necessary steps would be taken,” said Kor.
“My recommendation is to start dealing with it (cyber security needs) now because it takes time,” said Kor adding that cyber security is not an area where one size fits all as the environment and threats keep changing from time to time. He said, “If we answer only the current situation, it might not be good enough. Challenges are always evolving.” Terming India as one of the “few friends” that Israel had, he said both the countries were in the same boat as far as security issues were concerned.
