Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Sunday said the BJP will be in for a big surprise in 2024 general elections, suggesting that the party was bound to get defeated at the hands of INDIA, which is a coalition of several Opposition parties.
Rahul also said that there was complete unanimity among the Indian National Democratic Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) partners that their fight was not against a political party, but for “saving the idea of India”.
Replying to a question at the media conclave from Assam, Rahul said there was a great deal of flexibility among the opposition leaders and he was very much impressed with it.
“The opposition is thinking about this election in a fundamentally different way than it though about any other election before”, he said, while adding, opposition believes that the idea of India is under attack, concept of India is under attack, concept of free election, concept of free speech are now under mortal threat as far as BJP is concerned”.
Maintaining that this was something that was unanimous, Rahul said, “which means our behaviour has to change and our flexibility has to increase and that we are now fighting for the soul of India”.
On the issue of certain differences in some states, he said in bulk of places there are no differences and in some places where these exist, the differences are being ironed out.
The former Congress president expressed confidence that his party was certain to win the forthcoming assembly elections in all the four states including Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan. There is no way that we are not going to win in all these states, he asserted, while adding, even the BJP believed it internally that the Congress was winning all in these states.
He said the opposition was up against the financial and media power as the BJP had created a single monopoly in Adani who not only owns media, but controls huge wealth as it had been concentrated in one gentleman. But, he added, the Congress has now learnt its lessons and it does not get distracted by the BJP’s distracting and diversionary tactics.
