India, Canada holds security ties

In a significant development aimed at resetting and reinforcing bilateral ties, India’s National Security Adviser (NSA) Ajit Doval met with Nathalie G Drouin, Canada’s National Security and Intelligence Adviser in New Delhi on Wednesday.

The meeting, held as part of the regular bilateral security dialogue, also served to follow up on the discussions between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney during the G7 Summit held earlier this year in Kananaskis, Alberta.

Both sides acknowledged the growing momentum to rebuild trust and advance cooperation at the highest levels of political leadership.

The discussions were described as productive, with both NSAs focusing on key areas of mutual interest, including, Counter-terrorism cooperation, Combating transnational organised crime, Enhanced intelligence exchanges, Regional and global security dynamics.

In a clear signal of intent to turn the page on past tensions, the two advisers agreed to strengthen bilateral security mechanisms and reinforce existing frameworks for engagement.

They also explored priority areas for future cooperation, laying the groundwork for a more structured and collaborative security partnership. “The two sides agreed to work closely on the way forward and adopt a collaborative approach towards a new chapter in bilateral

relations,” said an official Statement.

The high-level dialogue reflects a renewed diplomatic will to overcome past frictions and deepen strategic engagement between India and Canada, especially in an era of evolving global security challenges.
