In greed for power, Modi Government toppled elected Govts, says Sonia

A day after the Supreme Court restored her party-led Nabam Tuki Government in Arunachal Pradesh, Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Thursday charged that the Narendra Modi Government at the Centre had, in its "greed for power", "disrespected" the mandate of people in the sensitive border State and also Uttarakhand through its act of toppling the elected Governments there.

In a stinging attack on the BJP-led NDA Government, Gandhi said, "In its greed for power, the incumbent Government at the Centre toppled the elected Governments in Arunachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, by undermining the Constitution and disrespecting the mandate of people."

Addressing her party workers' rally at Nanded in Marathwada after unveiling a statue of Congress stalwart and former Union Home Minister Shankarrao Chavan and inaugurating a memorial library named after him, Gandhi said, "We are all proud of the Supreme Court which protected our Constitution and restored our democracy."

Heaping praise on late Chavan for his immense faith in the Constitutional set-up in the country, Gandhi said, "One of the notable things about late Chavan was that he had immense faith in the country's Constitutional set-up. He would not have thought of going beyond the boundaries of Constitution".
