launching a scathing attack on the Congress, BJP president Amit Shah on Sunday started the party’s poll campaign for the next year’s Assembly polls in Assam and appealed the people to vote for them if they want development. Shah started the poll campaign by addressing a huge public rally at Khanapara area in Guwahati. He appealed for the support from people to form the next Government here.
During his eight-day tour of the North-Eastern States, Shah took up the issue of Bangladeshi infiltration in Assam and has assured the people that it is only BJP that can rid Assam of illegal immigrants. “If you want freedom from the Bangladeshi infiltration, you must vote for the BJP. We are committed to end infiltration,” said Shah while assuring that the BJP-led Government at the Centre would not allow Assam alone to bear the burden of those people from Bangladesh, who came here to escape religious percussion.
“This is not the responsibility of Assam alone but the whole country,” he added. Shah also attacked the erstwhile Congress-led UPA Government and said that the UPA Government promised to control the price rise of essential commodities but failed to do anything in ten years.
“However, it has been only nine months since the NDA has assumed charge at the Centre and we have been able to control the price rise. In fact, the UPA Government did not want to control price rise at all,” said Shah. Comparing the performance of NDA and UPA Government, the BJP president said that there had been a substantial improvement in different sectors including country’s security scenario.
“Even the small countries used to play with India’s security during UPA’s tenure. Now also there has been firing on our Borders. However, the difference is we have started replying them with the same coin now,” said Shah.
Pointing out at the corruption of the Congress, Shah said that it was the Congress who had been running the Government along with corporates. “They (UPA) term us as friends of the corporates. However, I want to ask Soniaji and Rahulji as to who had illegally allotted 220 coal blocks to corporate and big companiesIJ” he said.
“After we came to power, we have streamlined the system of coal block auction and the recent auction have benefitted the country’s exchequer with Rs2,00,000 crore,” he said, while adding that in the last nine months of NDA rule there is not a single case of corruption.
On the issue of black money also, Shah said, “The people of Assam had given seven of its 14 lok Sabha seats to the BJP and we are thankful for that and I appeal you to give us one opportunity and we are going to make Assam once of the most developed States of the country’” he added.
