Illegal slaughter of animals in Aligarh with impunity

Published on:

Despite of the High Court's order and complaints of inhabitants of the city, the illegal animal slaughtering has not stopped yet.

It is a common practice in Muslim populated areas like Sarai Rehman, Sarai Mian, Makdoom Nagar and Shahjamal to slaughter animals. Animals are slaughtered here in the open every morning.

The animal body parts spread foul smell in the surrounding areas and the blood of slaughtered animals flows in the colony drains.

Those people, who are not accustomed to animal slaughter, undergo a harrowing experience while passing through these areas and their feelings are hurt. The illegal animal slaughter if not checked can plunge the hypersensitive Aligarh in an unwarranted communal clash anytime.

Surprisingly, the Nagar Nigam and the Aligarh district administration are turning a blind eye towards this provocative issue. No preventive measures have been taken by them.

A related problem is the mushrooming of several meat shops in the entire town against norms.

These shops have come up near schools, colleges, temples and other public places, much to the dislike of residents. In these shops, old and unhealthy goats and buffalo are being slaughtered, which may give disease to the consumers.

The contractor of the government slaughterhouse and the health department staff are also involved in the illegal slaughtering racket.

They are simply turning a blind eye to the inhuman and unhygienic activities going in these shops.

Even when a animal is slaughtered in the government slaughter house, no adequate checking regarding the health of animal is done. No vetenary doctor had been appointed at the slaughterhouse for this purpose.

According to Mohd. Arif, resident of Sarai Mian, complaints have been made to the authorities but there is no check on the illegal practice of slaughtering animals going in certain areas.

The Nagar Nigam has not taken the matter seriously even when the local MLA and MLC raised these questions on them regarding this issue.
